Jhett Cromartie’s 1st Birthday Unicorn Cake Smash

Look who came for a visit all the way from Texas — one of my favorite babies, Jhett Cromartie! It seems like just weeks ago that we were doing her newborn photos, and now she’s smashing cake. Where does the time go?!

We used all things girly for this session — butterflies, flowers and unicorns in pink, purple and blue. Put your hands up for the beautiful birthday girl!

Doesn’t she look precious with that little horn on her head? This sweetie really got into the frosting. I love the close-up shot of her lathering up her leg with it like she’s about to shave. What a personality! Happy 1st Birthday, Jhett Paxton!!

You can even just pick a color scheme, and we’ll roll with that!

Newborn Parent Photos — Baby Boy and Daddy

I love photographing new babies in the arms of their parents, like this newborn baby boy and daddy. Baby Billy looks so teeny and innocent compared to his big, strong daddy. Tattoos always add visual interest to portraits, so I was happy to see that this new father had sleeves! The black ink, plus his dark shirt and facial hair really emphasize Billy’s soft, fair baby skin.

I can’t get enough of those tiny toes sticking up, and the little hands neatly folded over Daddy’s. Billy looks like he’s concentrating really hard — maybe he’s dreaming up what kind of tattoos he’s going to get when he’s bigger. Welcome to the world, little man!

It’s best to capture newborns within the first 7 to 10 days of life. Once that small window of time is gone, you will never have the chance to capture it again. Sweet Little Face — 7 Month Old Sitter Session

Look at this sweet little face! I love the innocence of babies around seven months, when they first start sitting up. Lots of little ones don’t like “tummy time” when they’re newborns, but this baby girl clearly doesn’t mind at all now!

Her eyes just shine, and her hair and skin look so soft. A neutral background, an ivory felted blanket and a dainty headband are all that’s needed to showcase her natural sweetness. I’m glad we were able to capture this precious time in her life for her family.

Sitter sessions are for babies between the ages of 6 and 9 months, or when they are sitting up on their own but not walking. I recommend waiting until baby is sitting up so you maximize your session and have the greatest selection of poses in your gallery. Session details:

about an hour long (little ones that age generally don’t last any longer)
choice of two backdrops
wardrobe assistance — I have a select number of beautiful handmade dresses and rompers for girls, and one super cute knit romper for boys. You may provide your own outfits as well (we will work together on clothing choices). For boys, I recommend little jeans (nude on top is adorable!) and outfits with bow ties and hats.
final gallery of 15 beautifully edited hi-res images sent via digital transfer within 2 weeks of the session
$425 plus tax ($200 plus tax deposit to hold your session, and balance of $225 plus tax due the day of)

15-20 color images for the 4 month session; 25-30 images for the 7 month session; 30-35 images for the 12 month session
12 month session includes a cake for a cake smash in the studio if you would like to celebrate the 1^st birthday

Carousel 1st Birthday Cake Smash

The last of the summer’s cake smashes I have to share with you is this carousel 1st birthday cake smash for little Alisha. I absolutely love the pink and peach together, and a few flecks of gold really made this new set shine.

I cannot get over how much hair Alisha has for just being one! Her dark curls looked adorable half up with a peach flower, and also topped with a gold crown. We got the most precious smiles from her — even some big open-mouth ones! She was so excited to show us the pink balloon and to hold up the gold glittery “1” prop. She carefully peeled all the decorations off the cake before tasting them. Yum! Yay for ONE!

Lavender Fields and Flowers 1st Birthday Cake Smash

Sweet Alaia (isn’t that a beautiful name?) celebrated her first birthday with a lavender fields and flowers cake smash. Although we didn’t use any actual lavender, these images almost make me smell the fragrant flowering herb and feel calm. The painterly background, vintage bird cages, twinkle lights and paper floral elements gave this session a soft, romantic feel. Another delicious and pristinely decorated cake by Kimmy’s Kakes was the centerpiece of the set.

Look at Alaia’s big brown eyes! She looked precious in both pink and aqua, and of course in just a diaper cover and oversized bow. She wasn’t a big fan of getting messy and let us know when she was all done, but luckily, we got some adorable portraits before that. I love the detail shots showcasing her sweet piggies, her gorgeous long eyelashes and her crumb-covered kisser. Have fun being one, little love!
